Day 3: Asakusa

We were up and ready to go this morning by 8:00 a.m. So far, there are a lot of curious things we have found concerning food in Tokyo.1. Most coffee shops don't open until 9:00 a.m., thus proving that the Japanese are not coffee drinkers.
2. There is no fresh fruit to be found. Anywhere.
3. Finding food is an adventure. Everything--well, not everything, but most things, are prepared with ham and corn. For instance, our "Minestrone soup" tonight was noodles, corn, and ham.
We took the hotel shuttle to the Hamamatscho train station and found a coffee shop that was open at 9:00! After a moderately satisfying breakfast of coffee and "croissants" we boarded the train to Asakusa.

Asakusa is one of the areas of Tokyo that maintains a bit of Old Tokyo feel, but, at the same time, it's a bit of a tourist trap. There's a large flea market with more souveniers than you can imagine. At the end of the flea market is a big temple where people tie prayers onto wires and buy prayers to burn, wafting the smoke onto them before entering the temple.

Day 2: Shinjuku and Conference

Day 1: Shibuya

Tokyo!

After a long 13 hour flight, some bad plane food, three movies, two trashy novels, a People magazine, an adventure in public transportation involving a multitude of train stations and lots of steps, and lots of anticipation, we made it to our hotel: The Prince Park Tower Tokyo. We received primo treatment at check-in involving a detailed tour of our hotel room. It's pretty amazing. Here's what we see when we look out our window.

We arrived at the hotel around 5 p.m. and went in search of food, which proved to be an adventure. We were in bed by 8 and attempted to sleep. Mom and I got up around 12:45, 2:00, and were ready to start our day at 4:00 a.m. As it turns out, morning sickness becomes all day sickness with a time change. Things could get interesting...

Chicken Pox!!

Summing up the summer so far:
- Felicity is potty-trained.
- But she refuses to poop on the potty.
- We have spent most days going to the Aqua Park or the Beach
- We are expecting a baby in February.
- The baby so far is healthy and thriving.
- Things were going smoothly, until...

I got shingles in mid-July. I was very sick, yet toughed it out for Felicity's 3rd birthday.

My shingles caused Chris and Felicity to get the chicken pox. While we were on vacation. In Florida. Just days before I leave for Tokyo.

As far as rites of passage for parenting go, I think we passed a big one.
